Currently a home going up in Bozeman, Montana, is being constructed entirely from U.S. products. Everything from the nails, screws, nuts and bolts, to the steel, paint and bathroom toiletries is produced in the United States.
Every piece of the home is manufactured in America. This U.S. made house is being built with better than 120 products from more than 33 states.
Numbers indicate that if every builder throughout the country bought just 5 percent more U.S. made materials, they would help create some 220,000 new jobs. A major independent consulting group has confirmed the numbers add up. In addition, the home, though not finished, is running only 1 to 2 percent more than a foreign-sourced home of similar nature.
Imagine what could happen if every U.S. builder raised their percentage significantly above the 5% level… and home improvement stores got involved?

The development and implementation of new FEMA Digital Flood Insurance Rate Maps (DFIRMs) is a formal process with official Government Staff and General Public review process. The Public has 90 days from the initial public meeting in each county to review the maps and submit specific information regarding their property. The adoption of the new FEMA DFIRMs takes place when all of the appeals and protests have been resolved. The length of this resolution process is dependent on the number of cases and the duration and number of judicial appeals that are filed.
While a deadline has not been set yet for Volusia and Osceola property owners to file an appeal, Lake County owners must act by Dec 12, 2011. Orange County completed its mapping in 2009 and Seminole did the same in 2008. Polk County’s revised mapping is scheduled to become final in 2012 – 2013 depending on where the property is located. These new designations are the result of a $1 billion project FEMA started about 6 years ago.
For those who are unsure of where they stand, this is well worth looking into, as the increased cost of flood insurance may be significant if a mortgage is involved on the property and the designation should change. Check with your individual county flood plain manager for clarification if you feel your property is in a questionable area.

Think termite coverage is covered under your homeowner’s insurance policy?
Think again…
Termite and insect damage is not covered under a standard homeowner’s insurance policy, unless a rider or optional coverage has been added. Best to be aware of this, and have a pest control contract in place with a reputable pest control company before any significant issues arise.
Florida has more bugs than nearly any other state; hence this old adage applies…”An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” Many a homeowner across the state would attest to this.
Only two Florida cities showed up among the top 10 Real Estate markets in the United States with the largest five year drop in value.
